What is Liver and kidney blood test used for?
An organ package with liver enzymes (ALAT, ASAT, GGT, alkaline phosphatase), bilirubin, albumin, the FIB-4 liver fibrosis score, and kidney markers (creatinine, eGFR, urea and urate). Liver and kidney values are relevant before and during many treatments, and when alcohol, medicines, supplements or excess weight may affect the organs.
Parameters in Liver and kidney blood test (11)
- ALAT
- A liver enzyme that rises with liver cell damage, for example in fatty liver.
- ASAT
- An enzyme from liver and muscle. Can rise after hard training.
- GGT
- A liver enzyme affected by alcohol and the bile ducts.
- Alkaline phosphatase
- An enzyme from the liver and bones.
- Bilirubin
- A breakdown product of red blood cells processed by the liver.
- Albumin
- The most common blood protein. It binds part of the testosterone and reflects liver function and nutrition.
- FIB-4
- A score calculated from age, ASAT, ALAT and platelets to estimate the risk of liver fibrosis.
- Creatinine
- A waste product from muscles that the kidneys clear.
- eGFR
- Estimated kidney filtration, calculated from creatinine.
- Urea
- A waste product from protein breakdown that the kidneys clear.
- Urate
- Uric acid. High levels can cause gout.
Preparation for Liver and kidney blood test
- Fasting is not required.
- No alcohol for 24 hours before the test.
- Avoid hard training just before the test.
Preparation follows the laboratory's instructions for this package. Celto
What is a venous blood test?
A venous blood test means the sample is taken from a vein, usually in the crook of the elbow. Trained staff insert a thin needle and collect the blood in small vacuum tubes; the draw itself normally takes only a few minutes. A venous sample gives the laboratory enough material to measure many markers at once with standard, quality-controlled methods.
How much blood is drawn?
A standard adult blood tube typically holds about 4–5 ml, and some tube types up to about 9 ml. The total depends on how many tubes the package needs, but even with several tubes it is a small fraction of the 470 ml taken at a normal blood donation.

Do I need a referral for Liver and kidney blood test?
No – in Denmark no referral is needed. The package is only available in Denmark, and there you can order it through NordicTRT without a referral from your own doctor. The sample is taken as a normal venous blood test at a Celto location in Denmark.
Can the results of Liver and kidney blood test give a diagnosis on their own?
No. Blood values have to be interpreted together with your symptoms, medical history and sometimes repeat measurements. Results outside the reference range should be discussed with a doctor.
